The Blue Hour

I found an old book
with a photo inside
of the ocean and a
pair of bare feet
and an inscription
that wasn’t meant for me,

but that I love.

“Better to remember
this then me” it says

and I think how a gift
from a stranger can be
so much easier to treasure.

You give gifts. But they
are not what I asked for.
Not what I need.

But this is not what I want to say.

It is grey outside today
full of clouds and rain
and it makes the earth
seem like it holds more
color than ever before.
The soil is the brownest
brown I have seen in ages
and the grass a most vibrant

It’s almost not to be believed.

It makes me wonder if some
other force is at work in
our heads and eyeballs,
but I know the truth.
