Houseboat

One summer, years ago,
I am on a houseboat
in a lake with very high
red walls, canyons really,
enjoying the sun and water.

Both are extraordinary,
and could not be tolerated
without the other.

We sleep all together
on the roof where the
breeze can cool us

then altogether and
quickly the sky turns
angry and I find myself
crouching on a rock
with my camera
trying to keep still
so as to not blur our memory
of the lightning and stars.
